Why Conserve Art?
The US General Services Administration is entrusted by the public with the stewardship of the cultural resources located within many federal buildings. Curatorial responsibilities of the National Capital Region's Public Buildings Services include the care and protection of many art objects.
Conservation of art is undertaken only when necessary.
Art conservation involves examination, scientific analysis, and research to determine the work's original structure, materials, and extent of loss.
Conservation also encompasses structural and environmental treatments such as ultra-violet filtered lighting to slow down future deterioration.
