Childe Hassam
East Hampton, 1917
A prolific printmaker who ultimately produced over four hundred separate images, Hassam balanced his subject matter between Manhattan cityscapes, pastoral New England views, and small-town glimpses of East Hampton, Long Island, one of his favorite summer retreats. In picturing East Hampton, he used impressionistic short strokes to convey the scene's overall dappled, flickering light.
