Theophile Alexandre Steinlen

Steinlen was intimately involved with the circle of the Chat Noir (Black Cat) cafe, which included Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Like Lautrec, Steinlen is well known for his illustrations and posters, many of which also have social themes. This aquatint shows Steinlen in a more private mode, perceptively observing a domestic cat enjoying its own dark luxuriance. |
