Sgt. Dimmiline Booth, Jr.
Dimmiline Booth, Jr. was one of the first African Americans admitted into the U.S. Marine Corps. From 1943 until 1946, he was part of a military that still separated black and white servicemen. President Harry Truman signed Executive Order 9981 into law in 1948, abolishing racial discrimination in the Armed Forces and paving the way for the end of segregation in the military.
