Cities were smaller when citizens had to walk to work. "Walking cities" could expand outward when streetcars allowed people to live farther from their jobs.
The residences of many cities enjoyed the wonders of electricity by the early twentieth century. The streetcar was perhaps the most remarkable of those wonders. |
