Sharecropping agreement, for one year, made between Samuel Allen of Buckingham County and freedmen Ben Miller, Willis Chambers, George Sharp, Archer Chambers, Jessie Lewis, Henry Holman, Adam Holman, and Walker Cabell

Under sharecropping, white landowners provided land and usually housing, tools, and seed to impoverished farmers who would work the soil and receive part of the crop they grew. Here, Allen agrees to furnish horses, oxen, and farming utensils, to provide meat and corn to eat, and to give the freedmen one half of the corn, wheat, oats, and tobacco grown. He will not provide them with shoes and clothing.
