The Lee Brothers
The children of Thomas and Hannah Lee of Stratford Hall were prominent Revolutionary leaders. Richard Henry Lee is best known for his motion in the Second Continental Congress calling for American independence. He and his brother, Francis Lightfoot Lee, signed the Declaration of Independence. Two additional brothers, Arthur and William Lee, served as American diplomats to London, France, Austria, Prussia, and Spain with mixed success.

Arthur Lee served in 1775 as the London correspondent of the Continental Congress and in 1776 as a commissioner to negotiate a treaty with France.
