Patrick Henry called for "liberty or death" in March 1775, and by June, George Washington was sent to Boston to lead the colonial troops against the British. A year later, in May 1776, Virginia declared its independence and introduced a resolution at the Continental Congress that resulted in the declaration written by another Virginian, Thomas Jefferson. |
