Stamp Act Stamp
Parliament passed the Stamp Act to help defray the cost of the French and Indian War. Colonists were levied a tax on various papers, documents, and playing cards, which were "stamped" when payment was made. Often the document was embossed, creating an impressed stamp. Displayed here is an adhesive stamp -- akin to a modern postage stamp.
