Existing comment:
James Balfour (d. 1775) with his son George and James's wife Mary Jemima Balfour (d. 1785). The Balfours were in Virginia in 1741 and lived in style at Little England, their residence near Hampton. Probably, both paintings were the work of Matthew Pratt, who advertised in Williamsburg's Virginia Gazette that he would work in Hampton during the summer of 1773. |
