Carved wood penguin stamped on the bottom "Byrd's South Pole Ship / A Century of Progress 1933." "A Century of Progress" was the motto of the 1933 world's fair in Chicago, commemorating the centennial of the city. Probably this penguin was made from the wood of one of Byrd's vessels and was sold as a souvenir to raise money for another expedition.
