Observation of Certain Documents Contained in No. V & VI of "The History of the United States for the Year 1796," in which the Charge of Speculation against Alexander Hamilton, late Secretary of the Treasury, is Fully Refuted, 1797

Intense political polarization in 1797 resurrected Hamilton's extramarital scandal with Maria Reynolds in 1791-1792. Hamilton responded in this 95-page book, generally referred to as the "Reynolds Pamphlet" in which he publicly admitted to the affair to defend himself against charges of corruption.
