Stuart's Mount:
J.E.B. Stuart rode at least ten different horses during the war. The bay horse shown here could be Virginia, My Maryland, Chancellor, or Highfly. The last two were killed in action.
Butler:
Of Wade Hampton's two known Civil War mounts, Butler was a burley bay horse that carried him into battle at Gettysburg and Trevillian Station and may be the one depicted in the mural. |
