Traveller (1857-1871)
The horse formerly known as Jeff Davis, was born near the Blue Sulphur Springs, in Greenbrier County. Robert E. Lee purchased him in February 1862, and renamed him Traveller. The two served together throughout the war. On display for nearly one hundred years, Traveller's remains were buried beside the Lee Chapel on the campus of Washington and Lee University in 1971.
