Anasazi-Pueblo:
With the arrival here of domesticated plants and the bow and arrow, the lifeway of the Basketmakers changed so dramatically that they are called by a new name, Anasazi. The Valley of Fire continued to attract hunters seeking the bighorn sheep, a main source of meat. The bow and arrow made it possible to take many animals, so even though there was more rainfall in the early part of the Anasazi period, the bighorn populations crashed.
Houses and granaries, clustered around open plazas, appeared during the Anasazi period. The period developed a semi-sedentary life style, constructing their small pueblos above streamside gardens planted along the Muddy and Virgin rivers. In spring and fall, the Anasazis hunted and collected in Valley of Fire. In summer, the mountains nearby offered a break from the heat, and a variety of traditional wild foods.
