Al Gore served as Vice President for eight years under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. Oliphant saw the Democratic ticket as a study in contrasts: "Separately they are uninspiring. Together, the sum of their parts barely make up a whole. Clinton needs to please us all with endless words.. ... Gore was brought up in a Washington hotel, where he hung out with the concierge. Hence his rather wooden manner." Oliphant's caricature literally connects Gore's stiff manner and image with the shape and dimension of a 6-foot wooden board. |
