The Artist at Work and On Display

Throughout his career, Oliphant balanced the daily deadlines of newspaper cartoon drawings with the self-discipline required to produce other art. While his earlier reputation was built on his political cartoons, the Smithsonian Institution/National Portrait Gallery's major traveling exhibition, Oliphant's Presidents (1990), introduced a broad audience to a wider range of his work, including other drawings, paintings, prints, and sculpture.
