Industrial Support
American industry began supporting the Army during the Revolutionary War. Because of the nation's limited industry, the majority of war materiel had to be captured or imported; but the Continental Army did receive some American-made weapons and equipment. As the nation grew, factories expanded, increasing the capability to provide wartime support. During major wars in the twentieth century, American industry out-produced the rest of the world.
