Buy Bonds!
Wars are expensive. To help pay for the nation's largest conflicts, the government sold bonds to citizens, which were later repaid with interest. Throughout the Civil War, both the Confederate and United States sold bonds. Colorful posters encouraging Americans to buy Liberty Bonds helped to raise $21.5 billion to pay for World War I. For World War II, posters along with songs and War Bond promotions by popular entertainers assisted in producing $185.7 billion towards the war effort.
