Opportunity & Recognition
The Vietnam War proves to be a catalyst in ending the draft that had supplied manpower to the Army since World War II. Finding the draft opens a wide range of military specialties to women entering the Army. At the same time, women are moving into the civilian workforce in large numbers. In the 1970s, several groups of women are recognized as veterans including the Hello Girls who operated Army switchboards in World War I and the Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II.
