Change & Protest
During the Korean War, the Armed Forces becomes one of the first national institutions in the United States to be integrated. During the 1950s and 1960s, society begins to change, and racial discrimination declines. Later, American involvement in Vietnam stirs somewhat violent protests against the war, often directed against the Soldiers. The lack of popular support for the war leads to the withdrawal of American military forces.
