On 2 June, Congress reduces the Army to 80 Soldiers guarding supplies and munitions at West Point and Fort Pitt. The next day, it passes an act to raise 700 men in a regiment of 8 infantry and 2 artillery companies from four states, which become the nucleus of the US Army.
