Battle of Lookout Mountain
James Walker, 1864

Known as a premier military artist because of his Mexican War paintings, James Walker (1818-1889) visited the Chattanooga area shortly after the Battle of Lookout Mountain to sketch the landscape and interview the generals who were present during the battle. This is one of several oil paintings that Walker produced based on sketches and research conducted at the battle scene.
