Abstract Sculpture

This 30 x 17 foot abstract sculpture, executed by American artist Ezio Martinelli, is the last piece of art of a project initiated at the request of the late Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjold.

This was the last of three sculptures which had been planned for the "beautification" of the Headquarters building by Dag Hammarskjold. The sculpture is installed on the east wall of the General Assembly building overlooking the rose garden. At the presentation ceremony the Under Secretary for the General Assembly, Andrew Cordier, expressed his sadness that Dag Hammarskoljd could not be there to share in the moment."
