"Gandzelo" (The Sacred Tree)

Among the people of Bantu origin (more than half of the African continent), prevails certain customs and beliefs. The sacred forest and tree emanate from a deeply held belief that life does not end with death and that death and the dead must be respected because they continue to live. In villages there is usually a tree where people beg the ancestors for protection, health, etc. It is also here where family meetings take place regarding major destinies of the family, village and society. It is also under the tree that the elderly council makes decisions regarding the life of the community - this is a representation of African democracy.
