Presentation copy of American Notes for General Circulation:
American Notes for General Circulation is a travelogue by Charles Dickens detailing his trip to North America in 1842 from January to June of that year. He traveled mainly around the East Coast and Great Lakes area through the United States and Canada, primarily by steamship, but also by rail and coach. His travelogue served as a critical observation of the cities he visited in North America. Dickens gave this signed copy to his American friend and fellow-traveler George W. Putnam.
