Who Were the Japanese People Put Into Camps?
At the outbreak of WWII, wartime hysteria prevailed. Congress labelled all people of Japanese ancestry, living on the west coast, a security risk and ordered them into detention camps. Included were over 120,000 people, 70,000 of whom were American citizens. With only a few weeks notice, they were incarcerated for up to 3-1/2 years.
