A rendering published in the popular journal Harper's Weekly in 1870, in conjunction with Independence Day, depicted George Washington (in center, on horseback), members of the Continental Army, and onlookers, as the Declaration of Independence was being read in the Commons (now City Hall Park). St. Paul's is visible on the right. Trinity Church can be seen in the distance. |
