Forest Farming:
Forest plantations of a single species bred for rapid growth, high-quality wood and disease resistance are the most efficient way to grow trees faster on limited land.
Loblolly pine, a species native to open-land habitats of the coastal plain and piedmont, is the most frequently planted tree in the state. Other pines, such as slash pine and longleaf pine; Christmas tree species; and sun-loving hardwoods, such as sweetgum, sycamore and cottonwood, also are grown.
