This "golden" typewriter belonged to Lady Dojean Smithers, wife of the dashing Sir Peter Smithers, who worked closely with Ian Fleming for British Naval Intelligence. Smithers' exploits, it is said, contributed to Fleming's vision of the Bond character. Fleming so admired his friends' golden typewriter that he purchased one for himself, and used it to write several novels. |
