Antikamnia Tablet Wall Calendar

The gap-toothed kid featured on this calendar is considered the earliest image of what would later became the magazine's mascot. Editor Harvey Kurtzman initially used the "idiot boy" as an element on the cover of the first MAD paperback. The MAD Reader (Ballantine Books, 1954), and on the cover of the MAD comic book (no. 21, March 1955). The image wasn't prominently featured until MAD magazine #30 (December 1956), when Norman Mingo painted the definitive portrait of Alfred E. Neuman and "It Didn't Hurt a Bit" was replaced with "What -- Me Worry?"
