(4) Delay Line:
The delay line is a relatively simple series of belts that serves a very important function. Mail goes through the CSBCS at a shockingly high speed -- about 19,000 letters per hour. The mail is literally moving so fast that there is not enough time between the WABCR camera and the sortation process for the computer to figure out where the letter is going. The delay line is an extra stretch of line that delays the letters long enough so the machine can figure out how to sort them.
