Working from stock photographs she finds in books and articles, Lorna Bieber investigates the role that photography plays in fixing images in our consciousness. Her Montage works comprise monumental grids of manipulated images that focus on some aspect of nature. The photographs are abstracted through a layered process of manipulation and rephotographing. In Birds & Flowers, she combines two of the most popular subjects in nature photography to examine how archetypal images become stand-ins for the actual things. |
