New generations of flies have feasted, hatched, and flown away. Most of the lizard's soft insides are gone, but its tough skin remains intact, protecting the skeleton as a "bag of bones." Maggots continue to consume the lizard's body.
Nutrients, including phosphorus and nitrogen, have seeped into the soil and will become food for plants. |
