Deforestation
Forests aren't nearly as widespread now as they were in the Paleogene. But they're still important in removing carbon dioxide from, and releasing oxygen into, the atmopshere. Deforestation plays a significant part in global climate change. When we cut and burn trees, they release carbon stored in their bodies, and they no longer take carbon out of the atmosphere.
