Humans Continue to Change the World

We are a force of global change.

During the last ice age, people moving into new lands, combined with changing climate, contributed to the extinction of many large land animals. And for the last couple of centuries, people have been changing the global climate, too.

Today's wave of extinctions started in the late ice age. All sizes and types of species -- as well as their ecosystems -- are at risk. In the near future, most extinctions will be connected to human actions.

The more we change the planet, the closer we get to the next mass extinction.
