Before the 2009 inauguration, Michelle Obama talked about serving as the country's "mom in chief," supporting military families and working mothers, and encouraging public service. She has expanded her efforts to promote health and good nutrition. The first lady invites local schoolchildren to help with the White House vegetable garden and her Let's Move! campaign is aimed at the problem of childhood obesity.
