A Place of History

"Year following year, and century following century, ambitious youth shall look upon this stately building and rejoice that the paths of opportunity are here kept open equally to all."
-- Guy A. Thompson, at the cornerstone ceremony, October 1932

Since its completion in 1935, the Supreme Court Building has provided a setting for significant events in American life. Its monumental character provides an appropriate stage for the Court to play its fundamental role in ensuring the Rule of Law in the United States. And while Justices arrive and depart, the building remains as a testament to the high principle of the words carved above its entrance, "EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW."
