These gas lanterns (now electrified) are composite units made from the remnants of four lanterns which bordered horseshoe drive at the Olney Inn prior to its destruction by fire in 1977. Apparently the original lanterns were extensively damaged, since only these remnants are known to exist.
The reconstructed lanterns were made and given by Dudley Finneyfrock in 1988 for the illumination in the gardens at the Sandy Spring Museum.
The Olney Inn, a well known local restaurant, was located on Georgia Avenue in Olney where the headquarters branch of the Sandy Spring National Bank stands today (1992).
