About Our Mural:

Juana Medina is an author and illustrator who splits time living in Mexico and Washington, DC. She grew up in Bogota, Colombia. She has written several books for young readers, including 1 Big Salad: A Delicious Counting Book, ABC Pasta: An Entertaining Alphabet, Sweet Shapes: A Forest of Tasty Shapes that teach little ones their first concepts. She has also written Juana and Lucas, an early chapter book about a girl living in Bogota with her family and her dog, Lucas. Her illustrative style features bold lines and colors, and she often makes use of mixed-media artwork, using photos of everyday objects such as pasta and berries as the foundation for her pieces. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and was the first winner of the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship, an award given yearly by the National Cartoonists Society to a top college cartoonist in North America.
