Petersen House
Makeover in Progress
Welcome to the Petersen House. The National Park Service (NPS) is installing new wallpaper and carpet here. The new materials are reproductions of patterns from the 1850s and 1860s. The work will be complete in 2019.
The original wallpaper and carpet for most of the house no longer exist. Thus, patterns from the nearby Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office are being used. The office is where Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, lived during and after the Civil War. The site has many pieces of original wallpaper. The General Services Administration gave the NPS permission to use the patterns.
The Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office's address in 437 7th Street NW, Washington, DC. It is now a museum operated by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. |
