Restoration:
It was decided to begin restoration first on the Renault with the machine-gun turret as it was in better shape. The vehicle was carefully taken apart, and the exterior pieces prepared for painting. Mechanical parts were inspected, cleaned, and lubricated, and the engine carefully disassembled. Because looters in the Afghan scrap yard had stripped the tank, some of the missing parts had to be manufactured. The carburetor and magneto for the engine are missing and at present cannot be replaced. The tank is being painted in the original colors and camouflage pattern used during the "War To End All Wars." |
