Orchids in Chinese Art:
Orchids have appeared in Chinese art for more than a thousand years, embodying a variety of social, poetic, philosophical, and political meanings. But, above all, their undisputed beauty -- especially their delicate arching leaves -- has long enraptured China's artists.
The paintings on display in this exhibit are reproductions of works from the Smithsonian's treasury of Asian art in the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
