Transforming Murder Bay
1890
By the time of the Civil War, this area had become known as "Murder Bay," a reference to the many victims of crime, whose bodies were found in the nearby Washington City Canal.
The location of the Old Post Office here in 1890, was intended to vitalize the area and to help introduce Washington, DC, as one of the world's great capitals, similar in grandeur to London and Paris.
