Frederick Burr Opper is considered to be one of the founding fathers of American comics, along with Rudolph Dirks, Richard Outcault, and James Swinnerton. Some of his most notable comic strips were Happy Hooligan, Alphonse and Gaston, And Her Name Was Maud!, and Our Antediluvian Ancestors.
