The heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Clay Jr., appeared on 39 Sports Illustrated covers over the course of his career. The June 10, 1963 issue marked his first. Ali went on to win three championship titles.
The signed boxing gloves were a gift from his wife, Lonnie, to Sports Illustrated in 2003. |
