Daniel Longwell
Cable to Margaret Bourke-White, November 3, 1936

By 1936, Margaret Bourke-White was widely regarded as an important commercial and architectural photographer and budding photojournalist. She had been allowed entry to the Soviet Union to record its industry, and prior to her assignment with Life, she had been a staff photographer for Fortune. She is recognized today for her pioneering work in photojournalism.
The Fort Peck Dam in Montana was, in its time, the largest earth-filled dam in the world. Bourke-White's achievement was in capturing the beauty and majesty of a major industrial construction.
These cables between Bourke-White and Daniel Longwell, Life's first picture editor, convey the excitement and challenges of getting him the images he wanted.
