Norman Rockwell
Cover of "The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper" LP, 1969

Norman Rockwell's only record album cover was for The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper. Rockwell's tightly framed portrait reflects the period's counterculture. It portrays Bloomfield, a revered blues and rock guitarist, and Kooper, a songwriter and musician who holds a knowing gaze while wearing a black turtleneck and love beads. Both were fans of Norman Rockwell, a petitioned CBS Records, their label, to commission the 74-year-old artist to paint their portrait. After completing the assignment, Rockwell wrote, "These boys were the most interesting-looking people I've ever painted. Thank you. Norman."
