The specimen above was submitted to the Army Medical Museum by US Volunteer Surgeon Israel Moses. Moses exemplifies the type of surgeon that made the Medical and Surgical History possible. In addition to dutifully sending specimens to the museum, with detailed case histories (he is cited in MSHWR over 40 times), he designed an ambulance wagon with an attached treatment tend, and a three-pronged bullet extractor.
