The original fluorescent mineral
In 1822, French priest and mineralogist, Rene Just Hauy, described fluorescence in the mineral fluorite. But it was Irish physicist and mathematician, George Gabriel Stokes, who created the word "fluorescence" in 1852.
The term is now commonly used to describe all minerals that fluoresce. |
